  1. Memorial Day, an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, at least, it marks the beginning of summer.

  3. We were a crew of sailors and Marines, milling about, waiting to participate in downtown Denver’s Memorial Day Parade.  A bunch of kids in "A" school (first training school in military lingo) wishing we were back in our racks sleeping instead of squinting in the morning sun
  4. Ah, Memorial Day. The pools are opening up, the kids are getting out of school, and summer is (almost) officially here. It's also a great time to go car shopping.

The Memorial Day or Memorial Day at war is a commemorative date of federal character that takes place in the United States on the last Monday of May each year , in order to remind the American soldiers who died in combat. It was initially established to commemorate the fallen soldiers of the American Union who participated in the American Civil War , but after the First World War was extended to honor all American soldiers killed in the wars in which he participated that country.
